More About My Trip
Just thought I would add a little more about my trip from LA to VA. As I said in my previous entry, the trip was fairly uneventful. On the first day I only traveled as far as Tuscaloosa, Alabama. That was an easy drive except for the momentary detour I took through downtown of some Mississippi city that I cannot remember. I, unfortunately, got blocked in traffic and was unable to make my merge and ended up where I didn't want to be. Fortunately, I have a great sense of direction and was able to get myself back on the highway fairly quickly. The remainder of the day was easy except for the fact that I had to listen to Jewel (see previous entry) which happens to remind me of Shannon because it was the one CD that we always agreed upon when choosing music in the car. I know that there were times when I was literally sobbing out loud with my sorrow from leaving her, but we spoke frequently throughout my trip and that helped.
Day two had me driving from Tuscaloosa to Bulls Gap, TN. I made my travel route with the intention of stopping for the night in Bulls Gap so that I could meet of with Kristie (KristieGK) for dinner. We went to a restaurant called Fatz Cafe. Kristie brought along Karen, who I believe is her SIL and who I really enjoyed getting to know. We had a wonderful time; so wonderful in fact that we sat there talking for nearly 5 hours. It felt like I had known them both forever. Kristie's husband, Chris, joined us later in the evening. I drank so much coffee that I was too wired to sleep that night. Which really was a good thing because an ice storm hit eastern TN and VA that night. When I awoke in the morning to reports of slippery highways and lots of accidents I decided to stay put for one more day--it wasn't worth risking my life just to get to VA on Thursday. So, I snuggled back into bed and slept till two in the afternoon.
Day three I headed out bright and early. The storm of the previous day made the mountains I had to pass through a beautiful site. Actually, one of the most beautiful sites I have ever seen. At one point I stopped for gas in a small town nestled in the mountains. The town was Charlottesville, VA I believe. It was so quaint, so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. I definitely intend to return to that town some day. At around two that afternoon I finally arrived at my destination and found my beautiful husband out in the yard awaiting my arrival.
